Seeing red

It's salmon spawning season and we've been seeing the salmon running the river while on our walks. These are Sockeyes and are about 14-18 inches long. The Chinook are also running. They are a bit bigger and brown with a yellow stripe along the back. We've learned that the salmon are not good for eating during the spawning season because they have used up all of their nutrients (and besides, fishing season is closed). It's an awesome sight to see. It would be even more awesome to see a bear feeding on them sometime. We're hoping!
