Here's how it went:
We drove to Poulsbo (pronounced Paulsbo), a small town with Scandinavian heritage. We strolled a Scandinavian themed street and ate Viking burgers for lunch (a very good hamburger with sautéed mushrooms, onions and green peppers, Swiss cheese and secret sauce). We also stopped at the famous Poulsbo Bakery and bought goodies for later. 
Next we continued driving north to see some lighthouses we had found on the map. Unfortunately only one was accessible to the public. We were able to tour the Point No Point lighthouse and walk around on the beach there.

We decided to take the scenic route (actually they're all scenic) on the way back. We drove west and down the other side of the Hood Canal on the edge of the Olympic National Forest. That just wet our appetites to visit the Olympic mountains. The further west we got, the more lush and green the scenery got.
Then, heading east towards home, we stopped to stretch our legs at a small state park. While there we talked to a couple who was harvesting clams and oysters. They told us all about how to find them, shuck and cook them. The conversation was made all the more interesting because the woman had both an oriental accent and a speech impediment. Once we figured out that "lamb dip" was actually "clam chip" we were able to follow enough to get the gist of what she was telling us. In the picture you can see the man out in the bay collecting the oysters and clams. The woman is on the shore shucking them.
Heading home, we stopped at our favorite little Greek fast food place in Tacoma and then back to MV. We had a nice time and are looking forward to our next day trip!
